Month in Review: September 2013

August was a blur, September was… well, I was sick for two weeks AND I gave up Diet Coke, so let’s say it was considerably lower-energy. I did only two shoots the entire month – Stacey & Dylan’s engagement at the FREX, and John & Kelly’s engagement downtown. Besides that? I played catch-up. I shared Melissa & Chris’s wedding, Sarah & Brendan’s wedding, and finished editing everything shot to date. As an added bonus, Brad & Becky’s 2012 wedding was featured on Weddingbells, and the studio shoot at Moksha Yoga Fredericton was featured on Two Bright Lights. Some of the things you didn’t see: working on selecting a new portfolio, updating my website and client information, album designs, meeting and booking 2014 clients.

I shared excursions to Grand Manan, the FREX, and the Briggs & Little Woolen Mill, but I didn’t only park it on the couch and edit photos all month. There were Harvest Jazz & Blues concerts to attend; we participated in the Terry Fox Run; finally got out to Royals Field to catch the Fredericton Royals in action (and they’re doing great in the play-offs, which is more than can be said for our Blue Jays!); doing some knitting; going for walks on those magical days it didn’t rain. We attended a wedding in Moncton, and AG and I celebrated our own 6th anniversary this past weekend. Since summer is officially over now, I can report that we checked off 13 of the 30 items on our list of super fun times. I’m pretty happy with that… plus 2014’s list is already well begun!

I love the seasonality of this job, and how different months bring me completely different things to do. I was glad for the breather of this past month – to take a break and get caught up on everything, to be able to step back from my business and look at it with a more critical eye, and also get back to myself and be a little indulgent. It’s like hitting the reset button, and allows me to get refreshed October, which currently has on the calendar an engagement, 8 family shoots, a wedding, and a video chat with students across the country.  I’m excited.
